While you wait
- Do not pay anyone who promises to get your account back.
- Read Instagram's Community Standards and Terms of Use so you know which rule the decision may relate to.
- Tell close contacts how to reach you while the account is down.
04Warn your contacts
Send this from another account or by text, so nobody falls for messages sent in your name.
My Instagram account is disabled right now, so I cannot see or answer DMs. If an account using my name or photos messages you asking for money or codes, it is not me. Please reach me here instead.
05Watch out for recovery scams
People who just lost an account are the main target of fake helpers. Only Instagram's own app or website can restore your account.
- DMs or emails offering an "appeal" or "unban" link. Check real Instagram emails in Recent emails in your settings before you click anything. How it works
- "Recovery hackers" in comments and DMs who say they can get your account back for a fee. Only Instagram can restore an account, through instagram.com/hacked. How it works
- DMs from accounts calling themselves Instagram or Meta support. Instagram says it will never contact you about profile security through Direct Messages. How it works
06Once you're back in: lock it down
07How it probably happened
- Most likely
Posts or activity that Instagram decided went against its Community Standards.
- Also common
Using an app that promised likes or followers. Instagram says this can get an account disabled.
