03How long it takes
Published by the platform
Facebook gives 180 days to appeal a suspension, and says the period varies by region. It does not publish how long the review takes.
While you wait
- Read Facebook's Community Standards so you know which rule the decision may relate to.
- Tell close contacts how to reach you while the account is down.
- Do not pay anyone who promises to get your account back.
04Warn your contacts
Send this from another account or by text, so nobody falls for messages sent in your name.
My Facebook account is suspended right now, so I cannot see messages there. If an account using my name or photos messages you asking for money or codes, it is not me. Please reach me here instead.
05Watch out for recovery scams
People who just lost an account are the main target of fake helpers. Only Facebook's own app or website can restore your account.
- Messages or emails saying your account will be disabled unless you click a link and log in. Check Recent emails in Password and security to see what Facebook really sent. How it works
- "Recovery hackers" in comments and groups who say they can get your account back for a fee. Facebook's own route is facebook.com/hacked. How it works
- Accounts and messages calling themselves Meta or Facebook support. Meta says its representatives will never ask for money, passwords, payment details or other sensitive information over chat or email. How it works
06Once you're back in: lock it down
07How it probably happened
- Most likely
Posts or activity Facebook decided went against its Community Standards.
- Also common
Misrepresenting your identity, including impersonating someone. Facebook lists this as a reason for suspension.
- Less common
A hacker used your account to send spam or scams before it was suspended.
