How to report a scam

Act fast. Call your bank or card issuer first; a transfer stopped in the first hours is the best chance of getting money back.

United States

  1. Call your bank or card issuer first. Fast action is the best chance of stopping a transfer.
  2. FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). For online fraud, business email compromise, and crypto scams.
  3. FTC ReportFraud. For consumer scams and identity theft.

United Kingdom

  1. Call your bank on 159. The UK's scam hotline connects you to your bank's fraud team.
  2. Report Fraud. The national fraud reporting service, which replaced Action Fraud in December 2025.
  3. Forward scam texts to 7726. Free on all major UK networks.

Australia

  1. Contact your bank. Ask them to stop or recall the payment.
  2. Scamwatch. The national scam reporting service.
  3. ReportCyber. For cybercrime such as hacked accounts or ransomware.

Canada

  1. Contact your bank. Report the transaction as fraud.
  2. Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. National fraud reporting.

India

  1. Call 1930. The national cyber fraud helpline; report within hours of a transfer.
  2. National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Online complaint filing.

European Union

  1. Your bank, then your national police. Each member state runs its own reporting service.
  2. Europol: report cybercrime. Links to every member state's reporting page.
