LoginRadius Adds Consumer Audit Trail for Risk Assessment

Why we shipped a consumer-level audit trail at LoginRadius and what it changed for enterprise risk and compliance teams.

LoginRadius Adds Consumer Audit Trail for Risk Assessment, by Deepak Gupta on guptadeepak.com

One of the recurring requests from enterprise customers at LoginRadius was simple to describe and hard to deliver: tell us, for any given consumer, every authentication event, every consent change, every profile update, every device they used, in order, forever. So we built the consumer audit trail.

Why it mattered

Before the audit trail, answering an enterprise question like "did this user accept the new privacy policy before the breach window" required correlating logs from three subsystems and hoping the timestamps lined up. Compliance teams hated it. Security teams hated it more, because incident response depended on it.

The audit trail collapsed all of that into one queryable stream. Every event was captured at write time with a tamper-evident hash chain, so a deleted or modified event was detectable on read.

What got captured

  • Authentication events: login, logout, MFA challenge, failed attempts.
  • Identity events: profile updates, email or phone changes, account merges.
  • Consent events: opt-ins, opt-outs, policy version acceptances.
  • Administrative events: role changes, customer-support impersonation, admin overrides.
  • Risk signals: device changes, geo anomalies, step-up triggers.

What it changed

Compliance audits went from a quarter-long exercise to a one-day export. Incident investigations went from "best reconstruction we can make" to a definitive timeline. Fraud teams started building behavioral models on the stream directly because the data was finally consistent and complete.

The audit trail was one of those features that did not show up in a marketing campaign but that customers refused to live without once they had it. It is still one of the things I am proudest of from the LoginRadius platform.
