About
Modal is serverless compute for AI workloads, with the lowest cold-start times in its class (often sub-second) and a Python-native developer experience. You write a function, decorate it with `@modal.function(gpu='H100')`, and Modal handles container build, scaling, and teardown.
The Startup Program offers up to $25K in credits, valid for 12 months. Modal is particularly strong for AI batch jobs (data labeling, evals, fine-tuning sweeps) where pay-per-second cold-startable GPU is much cheaper than reserved capacity.

Tactical tips
- Tip 1.Modal's killer feature is parallel batch, you can fan out 1000 GPU jobs in a few lines of Python.
- Tip 2.Cold-start optimization makes Modal cheaper than Replicate for spiky workloads.
- Tip 3.Use modal.Volume for sharing model weights across functions instead of re-downloading.
